CONGRATULATIONS CLASS OF 2023! by Scout Frost

My future is circling like a vulture
on stumbling prey. A future
for me, on my hands and knees.
Did the rain wash away the smoke
and burning? Did we stop
to smell the night air,
cool and clean?
I’m so tired, but I want you
here with me, in blinding darkness.
Make me nocturnal, make me lover
and friend to you,
my calm in the storm, my snake eyes,
my inevitable black hole.
