BEFORE WE MET by Julie Benesh

From a decade away I could see the

Shimmer of heat from your

Barbecue.

I am sure you wish you knew me

Then. I was that baleful

Princess.

Eyes like cheap plastic

Earrings from

Macy’s.

Dudes on the el

Snapping photos of my sandaled

Feet.

Scent of cilantro and

Urine.

Saucy on the

Outside.
